JE Dunn has a longstanding partnership with Kansas City University, where we’ve had the privilege of contributing to the campus’s growth and success over the past decade. Having completed eight projects during our ten-year relationship, we are deeply familiar with the unique needs and vision of this prestigious institution.
The College of Dental Medicine is a 100,000 SF state-of-the-art, facility connected to the current College of Medicine in Joplin, Missouri. Comprised of three structures: the Oral Health Center, Skyway Bridge, and Dental Education Center, the new College is built to serve new and existing students with first class accommodations. The brand-new Oral Health Center (OHC) is a 70,000 SF dental school, enrolling 320 students in training with 92 operatory stations and an 84-person simulation center. The students serve the four-corner region of Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas through a term-based, comprehensive care practice model with the goal to provide care to 40,000-plus patients annually. The OHC includes clinical spaces, patient waiting areas, dispensaries, and lab spaces.
The Dental Education Center (DEC) is a 30,000 SF facility comprised of 15 study rooms, locker-rooms, a 60-person classroom, two 96-person classrooms and a dining area. The DEC serves as a flexible common space between the two colleges and offers large gathering opportunities when the two 96-person classrooms are combined. Also included in the OHC and DEC are two storm shelters.
The 2,000 SF skyway bridge connects the Dental Education Center and Oral Health Center, which allows students and faculty to travel through both facilities while staying indoors. The skyway bridge overlooks a brand-new quad and promenade area with fresh new landscaping and decorative concrete walkways. The overall site includes five acres of improvements providing outdoor study spaces and a 35,000 SF quad for exercise activity and gathering opportunities.
